Development Engineer
My Client is part of a globally renowned Corporation which employs more than 26,000 people worldwide.
They develop, manufacture and sell a unique range of 3D hardware and software inspection systems for the automotive, aerospace, medical and electronic sectors and have a worldwide sales organisation.
The operational and technical groups are made up of several development and manufacturing sites located in North America, Europe Asia and the UK.
They are ISO9001:2008 and TickIT 5.5.
Certified for the design, manufacture and installation of calibrated CMMs and measuring robots.
The UK Engineering group is responsible for the development and manufacture of the coordinate measurement machines (CMM), supporting metrology software and also a new range of robotic CMMs (RCA).
The Engineering group can also be involved in joint-development activities with other Group wide development groups.
The Role:
The Development Engineer will work closely with highly qualified and experienced mechanical and electronic design engineers, the software development team and system test engineers throughout the product development cycle for the whole range of CMMs and robotic CMMs.
The range of activities could involve assembly and assessment of small scale but crucial modifications based on CIR (continuous improvement requests), customer specific developments and through to strategically important multi-disciplined projects.
The role activities may involve testing existing designs, prototype build and validation, through to pre-series assembly and hand-over to the Production and Service departments.
The role will also include creation and execution of comprehensive test plans, analysis of results and construction of feedback through reports and improvement proposals/specifications.
The Development Engineer role will encompass the implementation of “best practice” in build processes, test design and execution techniques and FMEA reporting.
The Candidate:
It is essential that candidate joining the team comes with significant experience of Hardware Development and Product Development & Testing within the Machine Tool or Metrology Industry with good qualifications in Mathematics and Sciences, with higher level accreditations in an Engineering discipline being hugely beneficial (ONC/HNC, etc).
Candidates will demonstrate proven capability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construct build instructions; Experience in the use of standard software applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and project planning software.
As part of this interesting and rewarding opportunity, the successful candidate will: Develop and enhance the Engineering group’s overall test strategy; Work with the development teams in the creation of product specifications advising on test aspects and quality objectives, working with the teams to keep the product on time and to specification; Ensure that the development procedures are followed at all stages of projects according to Quality Management System requirements; Analyse test data, presenting the data, analysis and conclusions in an easily understood and intuitive format; Become experienced and knowledgeable in activities such as metrology accuracy tests, CMM and CMM Robot build and calibration, and new product development evaluations, including functionality testing, robustness, performance and reliability testing.
