Power Systems Engineer

In the heart of Stafford, within our Global Centre of Excellence a position has become available for a skilled Power Systems Engineer to directly contribute to the development of R&T activities on Distributed Power System Automation.

Main duties and responsibilities of the Power Systems Engineer:

*Conducting the research of technology and development of automated Power System monitoring and control systems for active network applications

*System Design Specifications: writing detailed technical specifications for development

*System Modelling: using digital simulation tools such (i.e.

Matlab, Simulink, Opal-RT) as means of creating models of power systems

*Algorithm Development: writing and developing the algorithms to solve automation function blocks according to the internal development processes

*Environment Test Design: defining and testing the simulation environment for validation

*Testing & Validation: performing test/validation of the solution, including related debugging

*Publishing technical papers as well as submitting innovations and patents

*Following project specifications and proposing improvement programs for new development

*Working with customers to identify and solve power systems issues using software solutions

*Participating in technical visits, workshops, conferences and customer/stakeholder training as required

Power Systems Engineer requirements:

*Educated to degree level (or equivalent) level in an Electro-technical discipline

*Expert knowledge of Power Systems (i.e.

design networks, grid, functional behaviours, S/S design etc.)

*Strong experience of real-time digital simulators (Simulink essential, Opal-RT advantageous)

*Knowledge of power system state estimation and automation processes (hands-on experience is valuable)

*Advanced knowledge of wide-area monitoring and control structures, functions and principles, with a focus on Coordinated Voltage Control

*Exposure to IEC61131 and IEC61850 is advantageous

*Control Hardware system design and project delivery processes

*Cubicle Hardware design life-cycle

*Control & Protection Relay logics Design techniques
