Traffic & Transport Planner/Engineer

£28,000 to £40,000 + package

We are looking to recruit a Transport Planner / Traffic Engineer to work within our busy Civil Engineering department based at our office in Derby.

The ideal candidate will have a background in delivering Transport Assessments and Travel Plans, as well as the production of junction design, to help strengthen the transport planning team within the Derby Office.

The Post:

This exciting Traffic / Transport opportunity will involve working with a friendly team of specialist design engineers to complete varied scale traffic and transportation consultancy projects for primarily developer clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to help develop a strategically important area and the successful person will be key in building the business.

We typically deliver a wide range of project-types throughout the UK and for a wide range of development types including highway, rail, airports, power and buildings projects.

Currently we are delivering a large number of site-specific Transport Assessments and Travel Plans for private developer clients as well as more specialist projects.

Ideally applicants should have at least a higher education qualification in a relevant science discipline; however consideration would also be given to suitable candidates with relevant experience.

We prefer candidates with strong background in the traffic / transportation industry with a good understanding of the technical and procedural aspects of the industry.

The candidate should have strong organisational and communication skills, and take a practical approach to problem solving.

They should have at least two years' post-graduate or 5 years experience in a relevant position.

Key responsibilities will include:

, Production and delivery of Transport Assessments and Travel Plans
, Production of site access / highway improvement drawings
, Undertake report writing and the production of transport calculations
, Managing of multiple projects
, Delivering own projects whilst assisting others members of the team
, Sharing knowledge across the organisation
, Attend recommended training courses to assist with personal development as required by the company.
, Comply with company Health and Safety standards at all times
, Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position.

Person Specification:


BEng in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering / Geography or equivalent
'A' Level Maths, English and/or Science

5 GCSE Grade C or above including Maths, English and Science

Either 2 years post graduate experience, or 5 years experience in transport planning / traffic engineering
Experience of undertaking highway layout designs using DMRB / local highway standards
Good standard of report writing

Good capability with spreadsheets
Experienced at undertaking design using AutoCad

Experience with GIS systems


Excellent communicator, both written and oral, with good report writing skills.

The ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels both internally and externally.

A proven ‘self-starter' with drive, positivity and enthusiasm and a strong desire to succeed.

Commercially astute with strong and effective influencing and negotiating skills.

Reliable and trustworthy; acts with consistency and integrity at all times.
