Senior Mechanical Engineer- Drivetrain

There is rapid change in automotive drivetrains as drivetrains become more electrified, and the market is demanding extremely rapid development timescales.

We have considerable demand for our services based around using our advanced simulation tools that can help our clients meet their development deadlines.

Our clients include many of the best known car manufacturers and first-tier suppliers of transmissions and axles.

We are also active in providing consultancy services related to drivetrains in the renewable energy, rail, marine and aerospace sectors.

Responsibilities in this role will include

  • Contributing to and in sometimes technically leading our projects in

    • Drivetrain design

    • Drivetrain design review & optimisation

    • Drivetrain development troubleshooting (e.g.

      durability, vibration, efficiency failures)

  • Delivering technical work

    • CAE

    • CAD work in CATIA, and guiding others in design work

    • Reviewing and signing-off drawings

    • Liaising with manufacturers and test houses to deal with non-conformances and development issues

    • Specification of clutches, synchronisers

    • Specification of hydraulic and electric shifting mechanisms

    • Developing PDS documents and test requirements

  • Discussions with customers in meetings and web-meetings

    • Supporting sales teams to understand customer needs

    • Writing proposals for project work

    • Project delivery

You will have

  • A good understanding of the development process for transmissions or similar complex mechanical components

  • Either an in-depth knowledge of the use of simulation technology such as FE analysis, CAE, gear design software, or a good appreciation of how such tools are used in the design process.

  • A sound knowledge of manufacturing for mechanical components such that you can sign-off drawings of transmission components and liaise with manufacturers

  • High level qualifications (typically degree) in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or related subject

  • 5+ years experience in a related area

  • Strong problem-solving skills and an interest in developing skills in analysis and other CAE tools

  • A willingness to be ‘hands-on when necessary.
