Histopathology Consultant

HCL are looking for a Doctor to fill a Histopathologist/Cytopathologist Consultant role in a hospital in the picturesque area of Lancashire. 

This is a whole-time or part-time post.

This is a replacement post to complete a complement of 8 whole time equivalent (WTE) Consultant Histopathologists.

This NHS Foundation Trust was established on 1 April 1998 and achieved Foundation Status in 2010.

The Trust provides an extensive range of acute, emergency and continuing care services to the population of Lancashire.

Typical Daily Duties:

- This post is presently based at one hospital, but it may be necessary for the post holder to occasionally travel to another hospital to do booked frozen sections.

In addition with approval of HM Coroner the post holder may choose to travel to two other hospitals under the trust to perform autopsies.

- The post-holder will be expected to take part in the training of laboratory staff including the

introduction of the extended role of the BMS.

They will also be expected to take part in the supervision and training of the specialist registrars and FY2 trainees.

- 8.5 clinical PAs of laboratory/autopsy duties worked flexibly according to the needs of the service and 1.5 PAs for supporting activities.

- With the agreement of HM Coroner an optional additional clinical PA may be agreed for paid coroners work.

- The post-holder will equally share histopathology, non-gynaecological cytopathology and adultpermission autopsy workload with the other consultant.

- The successful candidate will be expected to have or develop a specialist interest and take a departmental lead or shared lead in one or more specialities.

- Consultant histopathologists will provide, when possible, mutual cover for holiday, study and sick leave.

The role is available to overseas candidates who have the following Criteria:

- GMC Registration

- MRCP or PLAB qualification

- Fluent in the English Language

- Tier 2 Visa

The salary for this role is within the NHS pay scale starting at £76,001 - £102,465 and will increase each year dependent on experience.
