Informatics Analyst - Pharmacy Systems

My Client, a market leader in Healthcare and Pharmacy software, are looking for 2 Informatics Analysts with a Pharmacy Dispensing or Pharmacy Technician background to work in their office in Watford.

You can be expected to maintain the company's Drugs database for use with ProScript, by ensuring the data (products, product alerts, warnings, prescription details, prices, DM+D codes, etc.) is current and correct, in order to provide customers with the most up to date information at a given time.

The main accountabilities:


Process product files received from wholesalers (wholesaler files) in Microsoft Access in order to identify any product updates, order codes, prices changes and discontinued products, analysing the results to determine any changes and update the ProScript database accordingly.


Review data provided from all sources (i.e.

wholesalers, manufacturers, C&D), cross checking and investigating the information for inconsistencies, raising queries with the provider for clarification or further information where errors or omissions in the data are found (e.g.

strength, pack size, pip codes), ensure that all BNF (British National Formulary) updates such as; drug interactions, BNF warning labels, BNF references, contraindications received are accurately updated in the database.


Create and run weekly validation queries using Microsoft Access to certify any amendments or additions made to the database are accurate, correcting where necessary.


Add monthly additions, deletions and amendments from the separate UK Drug Tariff publications (England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) to the database for drugs and appliances.

5.Update and check DM+D information (Dictionary of Medicines & Devices) and populate all products with available DM+D codes (SNOMED CODES) from the DM+D website to ensure ETP prescriptions are submitted for reimbursement claims without error.


Perform user testing of ProScript to ensure changes made to the drugs database (i.e.

Drug Tariff amendments, drug interactions, warnings, labels) are working correctly as expected and escalating any issues to the Line Manager where appropriate.


Assist Service Desk department in clinical and commercial drug information queries raised by customers.


Where appropriate and within remit, produce guidance and Standard Operating Procedures for the addition and processing of data.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

, NPA approved (or equivalent) Dispenser/Technician
, Previous experience of working in a pharmacy/NHS environment is essential
, Experience of using BNF and England & Wales Drug Tariff is essential
, Knowledge of Scotland, Northern Ireland Drug Tariff is desirable
, Knowledge of organisations such as (but not limited to) NHSBSA, Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, Community Pharmacy Wales (CPW), Community Pharmacy Northern Ireland (CPNI), Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS), ABPI, GPhC, Royal Pharmacuetical Society (RPS), HSCIC , NHS England, Wales and NHS Scotland is desirable;
, Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to meet agreed deadlines
, Experience of using Microsoft Office is required, with Excel and Access to an intermediate level
, A proven track record of working successfully within a team environment
, Ability to work with large volumes of data to high level of accuracy
