Structures Inspection Engineer

FINTEC recruit is looking to recruit a Structures Inspection Engineer for our Engineering client based in Portsmouth.

This is a permanent position with a salary of up to £32500, depending on experience.

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Structures Inspection Engineer your responsibilities will include the following:-

  • Ensuring routine inspection, maintenance, operations and works activities are undertaken

  • Lead inspector responsibility for the inspection of structures and works

  • Commissioning Special inspections following flooding, bridge impact, element conditions

  • Maintaining Structures records including up to date condition, load carrying capacity; monitor abnormal vehicle movements

  • Ensuring the Service Co.

    carry out a program of inspections to validate annual Network Condition surveys; gather evidence of defects, deterioration, maintenance

  • Ensuring the Service Co.

    carry out inspections to monitor Life Cycle Replacement works programme and Operations and Maintenance works; Inspections defined by Performance Manager to review Service Company's delivery performance

  • Collating and reviewing weekly inspection performance and evidence gathering

  • Monitoring health and safety performance as part of the routine inspections


The successful candidate for the Structures Inspection Engineer role will have:-

  • Minimum HNC/D qualification in engineering or equivalent

  • Previous experience in undertaking inspections and managing routine maintenance and works activities on highways structures

  • Qualification as a Highway Inspector through a recognized accredited body (Institute of Highway Engineers, Lantra, City & Guilds) or equivalent highway inspection work experience with specialist bridge inspection experience

  • Ideally NRSWA qualification

  • Ideally H&S qualification(CSCS accreditation or equivalent)

  • Essentially awareness of relevant legislation, regulatory framework for the highways sector and knowledge of highway standards

  • Familiarity with the Highways Agency's Guidance (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges)

  • Experience of responding to complaints and appeals

  • Experience of writing reports

  • A good understanding of all stages of highways' design and construction including relevant acts/legislations

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of highways contracts, particularly ICE 6th Edition

  • Desirably Project Management training in Prince 2 or equivalent

  • Full UK driving license
