Component Engineer


My client is a market leading manufacturer of technology for defence applications.

Due to continued and sustained growth they are currently looking to add a Component Engineer to the team on a permanent basis.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience in Component Engineering.

Please note that due to the sensitive nature of the products you must be able to obtain SC Clearance.

Role Description
-This role encompasses the responsibility for one or more commodities (electronic (Digital, Analogue, RF, Passive)/electrical/RF/mechanical/Materials/chemical) within the UK component selection team.

This will mean that you will know in detail about the latest products, technologies available and will be able to advise an internal customer of the best product to use to satisfy his/her need.

To do this, knowledge must be kept up to date visiting relevant people throughout the business, both internal and external.
-Businesses must continuously improve and my client is no exception.

Identification and implementation of improvement activities will be part of the role.

The activities of the role will often span the international boundary and encompass our French and Italian colleagues.

Qualifications / Experience
-Have technical specialism in one or more of the following commodity areas: Mechanical/ Materials/ Electrical/ Digital/ Analogue/ RF / Passive and understand the technology roadmap for that commodity
-Have knowledge of the supply base for your specialism (a good knowledge of preferred suppliers)
-Understand Export control, REACH/ROHS, Pricing, failure analysis, obsolescence, storage and assembly issues for the commodity.
-Be competent in Microsoft excel and other office tools and be able to create automated tools to replace manual excel spreadsheets where needed.
-Be able to travel internationally in particular to visit teams located in Paris/UK and travel to various manufacturers/suppliers/shows around the country.
-Possess people skills that will allow regular face to face communications with the whole company creating/progressing and closing actions in the process.

Be able to run meetings and produce minutes.
-Possess excellent problem solving skills and the ability to write clear and concise engineering documentation.
-Have excellent time management skills and ability to work to targets/schedules.
-Have a pro-active attitude and the motivation to improve and get the job done.
