First Military Recruitment are currently searching for an Operations Manager on behalf of our client based in Swindon, Wiltshire.

This is an excellent and exciting opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager to work for one of the UK's most established logistics companies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Managing a team of Site Managers to ensure that our customer service level expectations are exceeded.
• Overseeing the supervision of associates in the designated departmental areas.
• Ensuring that the shop floor has the necessary manpower, competence, skill levels, knowledge, equipment and facilities required in order to achieve targets.
• To develop targets/goals for the designated departmental areas, ensuring all targets are met in a consistent manner.
• To set, agree and monitor delivery targets with schedulers and outside suppliers.
• To report KPIs for the designated departmental areas on a monthly basis outlining countermeasures and further actions being put in place to achieve KPIs.
• To manage the control of overtime within their own designated area, co-ordinating with other managers to support areas in order to avoid the recommendation of overtime working. 
• To be capable of conducting with Associate Services disciplinary hearings up to dismissal level.

• Ensuring designated departmental areas are fully compliant in regards of health & safety legislation.

Ensuring accident reports are completed to company standards and submitted in the correct timeframes.
• Ensure company working ethics and culture is promoted in the correct manner to all associates and outside suppliers working or visiting our sites.
• Overseeing the management of the day-to-day activities of designated departmental areas.
• Providing daily feedback to the senior management team regarding accidents, manning levels, downtime and any other issues in their area.
• Planning, controlling and communicating change in their area.
• Researching new technologies and alternative methods of efficiency.
• Setting and reviewing budgets and managing costs.
• Ensuring that effective methods are put into place so that the company runs to its maximum productivity.
• Harness a working environment which encourages team work, energy and creativity.
• Strengthen client relationships and ensure the successful continuance of business operations.
• Ensure production/quality processes, equipment being used and the working environments are all conducive to producing a high quality service.
• Ensure rejected product/non-conformance is rectified as high priority and that customers are kept informed accordingly.
• Establish goals and objectives for self and team and implement accordingly to help support/improve job performance (experience, ability, competence).
• Maintain proactive, dynamic and effective communication with customers at all times.
• Ensure non value added activity is reduced in all processes by using lean/kaizan tools and techniques.

The ideal candidate will be someone who demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment to the business, is responsive and flexible to change, and is innovative and therefore creative.  Must be calm and consistent when working under pressure and tight timescales. 
Must be prepared to work in a flexible manner regarding working hours (weekend overtime will be required when necessary).
Must be prepared to work on a Shift basis at all times.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience of working within a busy warehousing environment.
• NVQ in Supervisory Management or similar.
• Experience of operational management of large teams.
• Previous people management and delegation skills.

• Have comprehensive knowledge of quality assurance principles, methods, design, testing and implementation.
• Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, to be able to communicate at all levels with both internal & external customers, so allowing solid relationships across various departments/organisations.
