Quantity Surveyor Senior Lecturer

This is a real opportunity for a qualified Senior Teacher / Lecturer in Quantity Surveying OR fully qualified and experienced Quantity Surveyor Professional to move into a full senior teaching role joining a highly respected military training college in Kent, the Royal School of Military Engineering.

You will pass on your skills and experiences to Royal Engineer army students undertaking their training up to MSc level.

The successful candidate will have degree level qualifications and extensive QS experience gained from the Construction Industry and be prepared to teach across the full range of skills.

You will have teaching qualifications or you will be fully supported to gain formal teaching qualifications.

Salary - £50K + Excellent Benefits and Training.

Job Purpose:

To deliver current and academically sound Quantity Surveyor training up to post graduate level, teaching and mentoring Royal Engineer Officers to BSc / MSc level and potentially Chartered status.

Person Requirements:

A degree or similar level qualifications in Quantity Surveying

Member of professional body e.g.

MRICS

Extensive Quantity Surveyor experience from a strong civil engineering and construction background

Able critic of written work at Chartered Engineer/Masters level.

Able to Mentor Students on a one to one basis.
Responsibilities:

Developing and delivering instruction on following topics:-


  • Contract Documentation; specifications and quantities.
  • Measurement of building and civil engineering works and, electrical and mechanical services.
  • Cost estimation of projects.
  • Analytical and other methods of resource estimating.
  • Tendering methods and other QS practice and procedure.
  • Project organisation, including the roles, responsibilities and processes of all parties (excluding responsibilities under the CDM 2015 Regulations).


  • Project, Programme and Portfolio Management Maturity Model (P3M3)


  • Project risk (excluding construction health and safety unless it impacts on the overall project viability) and project resourcing.
  • Financial investment appraisal and risk management.
  • Value engineering / value management.
  • Procurement of works on operations and deployed overseas exercises.
  • Form and use of construction contracts.
  • Principles of construction law and tort.
  • Standard Forms of Contract with knowledge of historic Government conditions of contract desirable.

Essential Training:


  • There is a requirement to attend and pass the "Defence Instructor Techniques" and a 10-day Staff Leadership School course.
  • If not teacher qualified - Successfully complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education within three years of commencing the post.

Working hours Mon – Thurs, 8-4.30.

Early finish Friday.
