Project Manager – Construction Skills

Location: Exeter (with regular travel to Bristol)

Contract: Fixed term contract until 30th June 2022, Full time

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

Overview of Role:

This role is for a full time Project Manager to support several projects relating to construction training and supply chain development.

These projects are funded by a number of different public sector organisations but are all tied to the improvement of the construction sector supply chain, skills development and employment.

One of the main projects for which you will be responsible is Building Growth South West.

A CITB programme to improve the appeal of construction to women, ex-services personnel, people that are long-term unemployed, young NEETs (not in employment, education or training) and college leavers.

Running across Greater Exeter and Bristol, this project will deliver an extensive communications package to boost the image of construction and work with local training providers to deliver soft skills and pre-employment training.

Key Roles & Responsibilities: 

Working with a small team you will be expected to undertake the following:


  • Manage all allocated construction skills projects to meet their aims and objectives in a timely manner
  • Manage the budgets for the projects and ensure that any financial expenditure is properly incurred, that risk and health and safety matters are properly managed, and that all organisaton processes, policies and systems are met.

    In particular, this includes all relevant claims processes and project governance requirements
  • Line management, leadership, guidance, motivation and inspiration of a small team
  • Ensure our client evidence records and CRM system are complete, accurate and up to date, and provide high-quality, timely, accurate and intelligent reporting in line with contract requirements
  • Supported by the construction team, deliver the Building Growth SW communications package including digital content and 100 events to attract learners from the target communities
  • Monitor training quality and broker funding to the training providers in the region to deliver associated Building Growth SW training outcomes
  • Occasional delivery of training workshops when required
  • Proactively develop efficient, trusted and effective working relationships at senior level across a wide range of public and private sector partners and stakeholders, particularly with key partners such as Building Greater Exeter, and represent the service through attending and speaking at relevant forums and meetings
  • Deliver excellent client service at all times to funders and partners.

    The maintenance of our quality standards and building of a strong reputation is of great importance, especially as a new provider in the area
  • Proactively seek to add value to the service, their clients, funder and partner, and the Organisation as a whole

Please note the Project Manager may also be called upon to complete a range of other duties for the Organisation, as reasonably required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Essential:


  • Project management experience
  • Someone who is a real self-starter, uses initiative, with a deep understanding of construction skills and supply chain issues
  • Ability to exceed targets and respond to the flexible environment of project management
  • Marketing or communications experience – particularly events, social media or brand launches
  • An experienced networker with an established network in either the SW construction or skills landscape
  • Knowledge of the public sector or similar funding sectors – such as European Regional Development Fund, CITB or European Social Fund
  • Line management experience
  • Presenting experience

Desirable:


  • Project management qualification
  • Bid management and bid writing experience
  • Training accreditation or experience
  • Formal marketing or communications accreditation
  • Experience of working with hard to reach communities

You’ll be highly computer literate and possess a clean driving license.
