Hospital Nursing Officer

Location: St Helena, South Atlantic Tropical Island.

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum PLUS a tax free International Supplement (£15,900 - £22,200)

Description: This hospital is based on a sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500.

St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK.

The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.

Ensuring that hospital services are operationally ready at all times, you will have line management responsibility for Senior Sisters, Charge Nurses and Team Leaders.

An active member of the Senior Management Team, leading and managing clinical services, you will identify areas that require development and improvement in clinical practice and patient care.

Managing the Practice Development Team, you will ensure equipment needs are identified and incorporated into procurement plans.

You must see that robust systems are in place.

The delivery of safe, clinically and cost effective and compassionate nursing care within the Directorate will be your responsibility, keeping systems and processes in place to monitor and assure the quality of care and patient experience.

This may involve shift work, unsocial hours, night duty etc, so flexibility will be needed; you will participate in 24 hour on-call duties and call out via ambulance.

This is a two year fixed term contract!

Person Specification: With experience at Agenda for Change AFC Band 8a or equivalent, you have sound knowledge of changing trends in health and social care and current professional nursing issues.

You will have already conducted audit-based reviews.

A Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register (or equivalent), you hold a Nursing Degree with post-registration experience in an Acute General Hospital within the last six years.

You should have achieved a Master’s Degree or are working towards it, or have equivalent experience at this level.

You also have current ALS certification, or are willing to undertake ALS training.
