Business Support Officer - Finance

I am recruiting for a Business Support Officer, specifically relating to Finance for a school Federation, which is a partnership of two special schools based in Wigan.

This role would be to provide routine financial support to the Executive Business Manager, School Business Manager, Senior Leadership Team and Governors.

Ideally you would have experience of this sort of role within a school, but they are willing to consider a candidate with the essential finance knowledge and willingness to apply this to a school setting.

The start date is 20th April and initially it is to conclude at the summer break, but could potentially go on into the autumn term for the right candidate.

You may be asked to work across the two sites on occasion, but you would be predominantly based at the Hindley site.

The Role:

  • To support in a range of financial /accounting processes and to assist the School Business Manager & The Executive Business Manager in all financial matters.

  • Ensuring all Financial regulations are met

  • To support in preparation of audit inspections

  • To undertake a range of administrative and IT based tasks

  • To take notes/minutes of meetings as required.

  • To maintain and update manual and computer records/returns and management information systems and to manage, input & extract data/information in order to produce relevant reports as requested.

  • To maintain stationary and consumables for the Federation to include ordering equipment as required

  • To undertake reception duties (if required ad hoc) and to respond to general enquiries from staff and visitors.

  • To be responsible for a range of administrative duties and complicated IT tasks.

  • To maintain and update manual and computer records/returns management information systems.

  • To deal with and respond to enquiries from staff and outside agencies

Essential Criteria:

  • 2 X GCSE's in English & Maths Grade C or above or equivalent level of qualification

  • NVQ level 3 in Business Administration or relevant equivalent qualification

  • Experience of using various IT packages i.e.


  • Experience of undertaking a range of administration tasks

  • Experience of general financial procedures

  • Experience of using internet, sending/receiving email

  • Knowledge of office procedures

  • Understanding of a range or general financial processes

  • Ability to deliver polite, courteous and efficient customer service

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to use initiative to respond to and resolve problems

  • Organisational skills to provide administrative support to meetings and other events

  • Ability to prioritise own tasks and those of others

  • DBS registered to the update service or willing to carry out a new check
