Band 5 Prison Staff Nurse

Applications are invited for a committed Mental Health, LD or General/Adult Registered Nurse to join the Prison Healthcare team on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.

Please note; Guernsey has adopted the AfCbanding system, but have applied their own salary scale.
The current Guernsey Band 5 salary is up to £37,676 plus an annual bonus of £1,286 and higher penalty rates; 36% evening/Saturday and 72% Sunday/BH.
Annual leave starts at 36 days up to 42 days with full credit for NHS service for annual leave and sick leave.

Being the only prison on the Island, the facility is equipped to hold remand and sentenced prisoners, males, females, young offenders, children and vulnerable prisoners with varying security categories, offences and sentence lengths.


The prison has accommodation to house a maximum of 134 prisoners.
The Health centre comprises a team of Nurses led by a Band 7 Healthcare Manager.
The service operates between 07:00 - 19:15, with no night duty.

Shifts are three long shifts and one short shift per week.

Currently rostered one weekend in four; the weekend shifts are 07:00 - 18:00 split-shift with a three hour break.

The Prison provides primary care services for prisoners, which includes initial health screens and assessments on arrival at the Prison, other healthcare services are provided in conjunction with external agencies as required.
As Staff Nurse you will support the Band 6 Senior Staff Nurses and Band 7 Prison Healthcare Manager in the smooth running of he Healthcare Department.

The island of Guernsey is in the Channel Islands and has a population of 65,000.

It has some of Britain's finest and best-kept beaches, an especially mild and sunny climate, and an offbeat, historic harbour town in St.

Peter's Port, the island's capital.



Person requirements:
Registered Nurse with full Adult, Learning Disabilities or Mental Health NMC registration
Six months experience with transferable skills into a Prison setting.
