DBA Contractor (Agile/MS Azure & SQL) - Manchester

£420 per day (6 month FTC)

My client, a leading Legal Insurance firm is looking for a hands on Database Administrator (DBA), 6 month FTC to support a number of major IT system transformation programs.

The individual will take ownership of the current SQL estate, in addition to providing support and design expertise to deliver a database transformation story that aligns with overall infrastructure plans to move services into the cloud.

Main Responsibilities as a Database Administrator (DBA)

Database design and development

Provide overall design of data management requirements for all projects

Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges) and perform analysis and remediation of issues identified in vulnerability reports.

Expertise in Installation, configuration and managing database servers or services to ensure better performance and application availability, including migration of services the Microsoft Azure Cloud.

Operational management and ownership of the HF Database estate

Performs systems and application monitoring and alerting

Works with the Engineering teams in maintaining the stored procedures, indexes, etc.

Operationalizes new technologies introduced into the environment

Creating database users, controlling access to SQL Server and making sure right people get access to right data and looking after the security issues

Responsible for disaster recovery planning for SQL Servers.

Perform analysis and remediation of issues identified in vulnerability reports

Acting as the SME for data strategy and transformation activities

Product evaluation

Develop long term strategies that work with the broader business roadmap

Experience needed

5+ years' experience within database administration

Experience in working in an agile environment, using methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban or SAFe would be beneficial

Management and responsibility of all database platforms (On-Premises and Cloud)

Microsoft Azure DB technology stack

Automation of Systems Management tasks

PowerShell\VBS\SQL Scripting

Experience with MS SQL Server (Versions 2012 onwards)

Knowledge of High Availability solutions, such as Mirroring, Replication, Clustering, & Always On (Availability Groups)

Eager to learn new technologies & take personal responsibility/ownership for technical projects

Experience in Query Optimization and Performance Tuning, using SQL Profiler and other troubleshooting tools

Permissions/User Management experience is highly desired

Expertise in performing in-place upgrade or a side-by-side migration from SQL server

Database tuning and performance monitoring

Hands on Experience in installing, configuring, and monitoring, troubleshooting and managing SQL Server, including migration approaches and best practice.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
