The Role - Product Development Engineer

Reporting to the Product Development Manager you will be assisting in the development of new products for the business.

This opportunity is a senior position and the role is an excellent opportunity for the right person with the right skill set and practical knowledge.

Working as part of a small team you will be required to be able to work alone as well as part of a team.

The Company

My client, who has been in existence for over 30 years, has evolved into an international group of companies, in the UK they have 3 offices which comprise of a distribution centre, research & development and sales and this role can be performed from either. 

Key Duties

- Production of Engineering manufacturing drawings to ensure good quality, safe, robust and economical products.

- Producing Mechanical Engineering calculations to structurally prove the development using first principles and analysis software packages.

- Development of components and improvements to existing products.

- Following department QA procedures to ensure suitable high standards and correct tolerances are achieved and maintained in manufacture and maintenance of products.

- Direct liaison with external suppliers over prototypes and quality approvals.

- Quality control Inspection of newly developed products.

- Managing CAD documentation and fabrication library.

- Load testing of products as required to determine SWL. 

- Working closely with the Design Technical team as well as sales and operations.

- Visiting sites as required when the product is in its initial use.

- Assisting the technical team in data and method statement document approvals.

Skills/ Qualifications Required

The successful Product Development Engineer will ideally have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification or experience as well as the the following attributes:-

- Good fabrication and assembly knowledge and an appreciation of different material strengths and grades available.

- Experience of Structural Design 

- Knowledge of BS and EN Design Code requirements for Structural Design

- AutoCAD and or Inventor are an essential requirement for this role

- Experience within Mechanical Engineering
