Project Accountant: An experienced CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified Accountant is required to act as a gateway between the finance and project teams for an award-winning ethical trade consultancy for a 12 Month maternity cover.

The successful Project Accountant will use their 2-3 years post qualification experience to help coach project teams to understand the financial life cycle of their projects from the proposal process to conclusion.

You'll play a leading role in ensuring the financial performance of projects is correctly measured and reported on.

Previous experience of working across multiple concurrent projects is essential.

Skills & Experience

  • Recognised professional accounting qualification

  • Commercial experience, ideally within a consultancy and a similar sized business

  • Strong commercial acumen with good knowledge and understanding of foreign exchange

  • Knowledge of the project structure in a client/consultant business environment.

  • Advanced Excel skills and knowledge of accounting and project management software

  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities

  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organisational skills

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion

  • Strong service orientation and ability to guide and teach non-financial staff

  • Experience creating and or improving bespoke financial reports or reporting templates.

  • Experience conducting manual and systems-based revenue recognition and project profitability reports incl calculation of hours and associate mark-ups.

  • Experience working with subcontractor/associates' models

  • Previous experience with foreign exchange - desirable

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or business - desirable

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams with the overall project accounting from the start to the finish of the project and taking ownership of the systems required for this

  • Produce monthly cost reports for projects and assisting project teams with the production of monthly earnings; including reporting on project variances of actuals vs budgets, and updating forecasts

  • Carry out project finance induction and ongoing training of the project team on the financial aspects of projects (UK and overseas)

  • Ensure robust project financial reporting across business

  • Business partnering with non-finance managers in order to develop processes and the understanding of financial requirements

  • Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management

  • Report on project profitability to management

  • Close out project accounts upon project completion
