Pollution Officer

A Local Authority based in Warwickshire is looking for a Pollution Control Officer to join their team.
This is a full time, temporary position and the ideal candidate will hold a Relevant degree or other professional qualification (s) e.g.

BSc./MSc and have an understanding of relevant legislation and the underlying concepts and principles of the specialist area.

The purpose of the role is to identify, investigate, monitor and rectify pollution in the Borough and to contribute to the development of policy as required in the various fields relating to the activities of the post.



The main responsibilities of the role is to:

The implementation of the Council's Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy, together with a formulation of advice on the remediation of known areas of contaminated land in the Borough.
Identification, investigation and monitoring of air, land, noise and water pollution within the Borough.

Taking acoustic measurements and recordings where appropriate and interpreting gathered data.

Taking formal and informal action to secure environmental improvement in appropriate cases.
The processing of applications for permits under relevant legislation, including the inspection of premises, preparation of documentation, and the writing of permit conditions.

The re-inspection of relevant premises to ensure compliance with conditions, and making the necessary variations.
The identification of areas which would benefit from environmental improvement in terms of pollution reduction, preparation of such improvement strategies in conjunction with others, and their implementation.
Support the ongoing assessment of air quality in the Borough and the implementation of any new air quality strategies.
Undertaking the necessary work to ensure that all performance indicators and targets in the Divisional and Corporate Plans are complied with.
Carrying out a satisfactory programme of environmental monitoring, inspection and re-inspection ensuring that consistent action is taken.



Experience of investigation and enforcement, including the initiation of prosecutions.


Experience of monitoring equipment / regimes and / or software.
Experience of policy development and consultation.


Evidence of working with groups, people, projects etc.

Evidence of written work, quality / clarity of expression, document organisation and technical content.


Able to communicate with clarity and confidence.
Able to organise, prioritise and use IT.
Relevant degree or other professional qualification (s) e.g.

BSc./MSc.
Maths and English language / writing / reading, to a good standard.


Information technology skills - word processing, spreadsheets, possible database.
Additional qualification(s) in e.g.

contaminated land, acoustics or air pollution.



The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £16 - £18 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx.

£420 - £470 p/week NET after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
