Jnr Backend Engineer (Node.JS/JavaScript) - London

£30 to 40k + Flexi/Home working

My client, an award-winning Media Publisher is looking for a Junior Backend Engineer to work in their Mobile Apps team.

Support and training is on offer working on Node.js and JavaScript.

This role can be100% home based or linked to their London offices 1-2 days a week (your choice).

About the project

The Apps project has a rapidly growing team of engineers divided into three small pods - Android (Java/Kotlin), iOS (Swift), and newly also React Native.

We enjoy a substantial degree of independence, rarely seen in a large and established company, such as us.

Our apps are delivered to a broad audience, with over 1.5 million active users across more than 40 fully native apps.

We believe in automation to boost our productivity, using modern test frameworks, CI/CD services and other tools.

Our back-end runs mostly in AWS with a strong preference for serverless services.

Key Responsibilities

What will the role involve?

Work closely with client product teams to provide required functionality on the back-end side.

Be supported in aiding to the design architecture of our back-end AWS stack

Participate in agile ceremonies

Review code

Keep up-to-date with trends and technologies

Analyse requirements for new features

About You

Is a strong team player, able to step up when needed and be honest and caring about your colleagues

Writes pragmatic, performant, and clean code that works consistently across devices.

Is passionate about code quality and motivated to improve the codebase on a regular basis

Who are we looking for?

Exposure to Node.js and/or JavaScript

A proven ability to learn and pick up skills quickly

A determination to improve and drive to become a proficient coder

Nice to have

Knowledge of one of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure, especially serverless

Knowledge of at least one of CI/CD tools, e.g.: CircleCI, Jenkins, Codeship, etc.

Unit testing with Jest or similar testing framework
