Software Automation Engineer

We are searching for a Software Automation Engineer / Service Transformation Engineer for a very exciting and growing business - the role sits within the customers IT Corporate Operations department, working with a small team that is dedicated to service transformation and automation for corporate governance working with their internal end user community.

The end users are supported by a variety of collaboration tools with a strategy to educate and enhance the modern workplace.

This is a technical role - it sits within the IT Service Management arena focusing on providing 3rd level development and support within asset discovery and automation, across the whole estate, with the integration of various corporate on-prem and cloud-based IT services such as Microsoft 365 E5, Teams, MS Power Platform, Windows Autopilot and Hornbill Service Manager etc.

The role really offers and provides the successful candidate with a number of opportunities for innovative thought and design.

In general, the role integrates across all our clients' operations focusing on high quality systems management, operational performance and sustainability.

The role requires a mix of Infrastructure and DevOps pipeline skills and is supported by specialist Engineers with an opportunity for the successful candidate to enhance their skills with hands-on experience and also formal training.

You will initially be a focus on reviewing and analysing the requirement for a new network and infrastructure asset management tool leading to deployment across the whole estate and company.

About You

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a few years' experience in 2nd line support who wants career progression, someone with exposure to software automation, DevOps and Infrastructure development and support.

We need someone who is enthusiastic about automation and keen to take on new skills.

You require the following experience to be a success in this role;

  • IT or Computer Science Degree is desirable but is NOT essential.

  • Ability to analyse problems and determine appropriate solutions.

  • Natural curiosity and interest in developing and driving forward new solutions for automation and the modern workplace.

  • Automation scripting using languages such as PowerShell, Terraform, Python, Bash etc.

  • Experience of Microsoft products such as Windows 10, Microsoft 365, Teams, Windows Autopilot, Power Platform and Endpoint Manager.

This is predominately a remote role; however, you must be able to attend offices in either Exeter or Reading at least 1 or 2 days per week.

You must therefore live near to Exeter or Reading or be able to commute to those locations on a weekly basis.
