A local authority in Devon are recruiting for a Rough Sleeper Navigator be required to support their outreach team in conducting weekly outreach visits to those who have been reported as rough sleeping across the Teignbridge area, providing support, advice and referral services.

The Role
The focus of this Rough Sleeper Navigator role is to play a crucial role in the resettlement of rough sleepers, providing a comprehensive service to a caseload of clients who are currently sleeping rough or who have a recent history of rough sleeping in Teignbridge.

Building trust and providing person centred advocacy and support which enables clients to navigate pathways and progress towards a life away from the streets.

This will include the following tasks and responsibilities:



  • Conduct assertive street outreach during unconventional hours to engage and support individuals experiencing homelessness.

  • Perform strength-based assessments and create tailored support plans for clients to achieve sustainable life away from the streets.

  • Facilitate close collaboration with housing, health, police, and other partner agencies to maximize positive outcomes.

  • Empower clients through informed choices, providing information, and minimizing barriers to engagement.

  • Promote social inclusion, recovery, and positive networks, using creative approaches and personal budgets.

  • Identify and address underlying issues such as substance misuse, mental health, and domestic abuse through appropriate referrals.

  • Foster multi-agency collaboration to address street-based activities and housing barriers effectively.

  • Maintain a flexible, solution-focused approach to adapt to the diverse challenges faced by homeless individuals.



The Candidate
To be considered for this Rough Sleeper Navigator role you will require previous experience of working with homeless people and an understanding of the needs of rough sleepers and the effects of trauma on individuals with complex lives, as well as undertaking client assessments and support plans.
As the role is community based, you will be required to have a UK driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes, as well as an enhanced DBS.

The Contract
This is a full time Rough Sleeper Navigator role, working 37 hours per week, 9-5 Monday to Friday.

This will be for an initial 3 month contract which has an excellent chance of being extended or even made permanent, as it is covering the recruitment process for a permanent vacancy.
