A leading satellite communications organisation is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join its Access Networks engineering team, supporting the design, integration, and deployment of next-generation satellite communications systems.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development of advanced 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), working across cutting-edge satellite programmes and helping deliver innovative connectivity solutions.
You will contribute throughout the full systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements definition and architecture through integration, testing, and operational deployment.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will collaborate with systems, software, network, and operations teams while acting as a technical authority across complex communications programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead systems engineering activities for Radio Access Network (RAN) and Access Network subsystems.
- Develop and manage system requirements, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support the design, integration, validation, and deployment of advanced satellite ground segment capabilities.
- Design and validate 5G NTN Layer 2 and Layer 3 features in line with 3GPP standards.
- Lead simulation and modelling activities to evaluate system performance and inform engineering decisions.
- Develop test methodologies, tools, and validation campaigns for new network capabilities.
- Support the deployment of laboratory and test infrastructure for next-generation communications systems.
- Collaborate with software, systems, operations, and programme teams to successfully introduce new services.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Contribute to future radio resource management strategies to maximise network performance and efficiency.
- Monitor industry developments and emerging technologies, helping shape future system architecture and technology roadmaps.
- Provide technical leadership during integration, testing, and service introduction activities.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Satellite Communications, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong systems engineering experience within telecommunications or satellite communications environments.
- Knowledge of Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies.
- Understanding of:
- 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN)
- Satellite propagation
- Modulation and coding
- Mobile satellite and VSAT systems
- Experience developing system requirements, specifications, and technical documentation.
Desirable Experience
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
- 3GPP 5G standards
- Satellite ground segment systems
- Terrestrial mobile network design and operation
- Radio resource management
- RF systems and antenna technologies (Ka, L or Q/V Band)
- Performance modelling, simulation, and data analysis
- Large-scale telecommunications or satellite network integration programmes
