We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior R&D Scientist with deep expertise of industrial paints and coatings to join our R&D team in the Consumer Product Goods (CPG) sector.
This role focuses on developing and optimizing industrial coating products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
This position provides leadership to internal research, product development, and cross-functional teams.
The candidate must possess demonstrated competencies and experiences in project management, documentation, and communication.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in chemistry, particularly in the formulation and application of industrial products.
Technology Competency:
The Senior R&D Scientist candidate will demonstrate and apply the following skills to their work and has a proven track record of performing this consistently. Strong understanding of Scientific Methodology.
Hypothesis driven research and problem-solving capability using experimental design, data analysis and documentation. Coating Chemistries: alkyd, epoxy, phenolic, polyurethane, polyaspartics and sil(ox)anes etc. Coating Formulation Science: Lead the design, development, and optimization of industrial coating formulations including brush, rolled and spray applications for various protective coatings including general industrial, corrosion protection, containment, tank linings and other high-performance applications (waterborne and/or solvent borne) Utilize in-depth knowledge of industrial coating applications, industrial specifications (SSPC, MPI, ISO, etc..), and professional end user requirements to develop high-performance products. Apply expert knowledge of organic chemistry and material science to troubleshoot complex formulation issues, enhance product performance, and ensure product stability and safety.
Technical Leadership:
The Senior R&D Scientist demonstrates and applies the following attributes Ability to develop and implement project plans with proven technical leadership, technically guiding complex R&D projects and team members Ability to generate accurate timelines, time management, prioritization, and resource utilization, while measuring progress and providing updates in alignment with our marketing team Ability to make strategic decisions both technically as well as guide staff utilization, advising leaders and scientists to execute initiatives while managing business strategy and value creation Outstanding verbal and written technical communication, interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Recruit departmental employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
Analyze annual site utility expenditure and develop plan to optimize plant efficiency to reduce costs (ISO 14001).
Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
Integrate the plant PHA initiative with the appropriate capital projects. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and work with the maintenance crew to implement the needed preventative measures. Analyze annual site utility expenditure and develop plan to optimize plant efficiency to reduce costs (ISO 14001).
Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
Integrate the plant PHA initiative with the appropriate capital projects. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and work with the maintenance crew to implement the needed preventative measures. Work collaboratively with Euclid Chemical Cement Additives Lab team in the development and improvement of laboratory ball mill methodologies for testing materials.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (chemical or mechanical) or chemistry - master's degree is preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in cement manufacturing process control or quality management.
Skills and Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge and understanding of cement manufacturing, cement chemistry, and raw and finish mill circuit operation. Basic understanding of cement additives chemistries. Ability to interpret lab outputs (e.g., XRD, clinker microscopy, isothermal calorimetry, and physical test results) to develop customer-specific strategies and product recommendations. Proficiency with cement standards (ASTM, CSA, etc.). Strong knowledge of milling equipment, particle classifiers, circuit configurations, and pyro processes for optimizing clinker performance. Advanced knowledge of MS Office computer software: Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
Basic knowledge of MS Outlook, Teams, Edge Internet Browser. Knowledge of industry trends, including low clinker content cement production and co-grinding with alternative materials. Data analysis and report writing skills. Communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership and team management capabilities. Analytical and problem-solving abilities. The ability to design and execute plant industrial trials and mill audits.
Travel:
Willingness to travel as needed for customer meetings and plant industrial trials (up to 50%).

Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000 plus annual company bonus program
