JOB DESCRIPTION
Typical tasks for this position include (but are not limited to) the following: Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards, and make adjustments as necessary. Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections, or by using machinery. Weigh or measure chemicals, coatings, or paints before adding them to machines. Select appropriate coatings, paints, or sprays, or prepare them by mixing substances according to formulas, using automated paint-mixing equipment. Set up and operate machines to paint or coat products with such materials as silver and copper solution, rubber, paint, glaze, oil, or rustproofing materials. Turn dials, handwheels, valves, or switches to regulate conveyor speeds, machine temperature, air pressure and circulation, and the flow or spray of coatings or paints. Start and stop operation of machines, using levers or buttons. Record operational data on specified forms. Start pumps to mix solutions and fill tanks. Operate auxiliary machines or equipment used in coating or painting processes.

Position Overview
The Vessel Electrical Engineer (shore-based) will focus on surveys, fault finding, repairs, and installation of vessel electrical systems across operational vessels, from engine room to bridge.
You will be the go-to technical expert for electrical works, ensuring operational vessels remain safe, compliant, and fully functional.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Conduct electrical surveys on vessels, including dockings, overhauls, and routine inspections.
• Fault-find, repair, and install vessel electrical systems, covering:
• Engine Controls (Deep Sea, Comap, and various other systems)
• Power Management Systems (PMS)
• Bridge systems including navigation, radar, communication, and other electrical equipment.
• Assist with preparation and execution of pre-docking tests and inspections, including reporting and follow-up actions.
• Organise and manage parts and spares for repairs and installations.
• Maintain clear and effective communication with vessel crew and shore-based management.
• Perform preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown response, including occasional weekend/on-call duties.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Ex-Royal Navy or Ex-Merchant Navy – ETO, RFA preferred.
• Minimum 1–3 years’ experience in the marine industry.
• Basic understanding of diesel engines and propulsion system controls & monitoring systems.
• Experience with engine controls and power management systems.
• Competent in fault finding and rectification of electrical and electronic defects.
• Able to carry out electrical work, testing surveys, dockings, overhauls, and other repairs.
• Excellent command of English, both oral and written.
• Fully proficient with computers and applications.
• Full clean UK Driving Licence.
• Flexibility to travel to Belfast and other locations as required.
Working Hours & Environment
• Monday–Friday standard hours (on tugs in Liverpool/Belfast).
• Some reactive weekend work may be required for broken vessels.
• Team size: reporting directly to Technical Superintendent in Liverpool.
• Role involves breakdown response, preventative maintenance, and reactive work across vessels.
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: £40,000–£45,000 DOE
• Overtime: Any extra hours worked are compensated with time off in lieu.

This hybrid role involves designing 19” rack systems housing server processors, EU, PSU, µP boards, and IO boards.
Previous experience with ATE or test equipment design is highly desirable, particularly within aerospace or defence sectors.
The ideal candidate will ideally have experience with Zuken design tools, although applications from candidates using other design software are welcomed.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with other engineering functions to resolve design and production challenges.
Qualifications:
HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline.
ONC/OND may be considered with demonstrable industry experience.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Strong knowledge of 19” rack systems from vendors such as Orion, Prism, Canford, or nVent.
Electrical/electronic design experience with the ability to produce technical documentation.
Familiarity with LVD and CE marking requirements.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet).
Hands-on skills with mechanical and electrical operations: soldering, crimping, looming, and electromechanical assembly.
Understanding of production control documentation and traceability.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
Team player with the ability to work independently when required.
Ideally experienced with Zuken design tools (open to other design tools).
Desirable Experience:
Aerospace or defence industry background.
ATE or Test Equipment design experience.
Awareness of Environmental, Health & Safety regulations.
