Electronics Test Engineer
Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Salary: £35,000 £40,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, onsite
The Role We are seeking a skilled Test Engineer to join the Test Department of a leading technology business in Horsham.
Reporting to the Test Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for testing electroâopticalâmechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete systems, ensuring accuracy of results, diagnosing faults, and supporting the wider engineering team in resolving production or design issues.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong hands-on electrical/electro-mechanical test expertise to contribute to developing high-quality, cutting-edge products in a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) using standard test equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters).
- Assist in the creation of comprehensive test procedures and FAT documentation.
- Fault-find across a wide range of electromechanical equipment.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Ensure compliance with quality processes, ISO9001 standards, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate test documentation and reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes and facilities.
- Support field service activities when required.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organised workshop and office environment.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of testing electrical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Ability to write and execute test plans and FATs for new product launches.
- Competent in reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and PCB schematics.
- Ability to support wider production and quality teams where needed.
- HNC or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering.
- Hands-on experience in manual testing and integration.
- Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Word & Excel.
Desirable:
- PCB testing and fault-finding experience.
- Familiarity with digital camera and video protocols.
- Knowledge of automated test software.
- Awareness of communication protocols and networking.
- Experience in PLC programming, CAD packages.

LEAN Culture

Conduct "GEMBA Walks" daily.
Use walks as the primary means of education and communication of expectations.
Improve productivity through elimination of non-value-added activities.
Apply Engineering principles and methodologies to Improve productivity and eliminate waste.
Product Quality
Work to maximize equipment efficiency and quality for output.
Member of the facility QIC.
Ensure identification of root cause and subsequent prevention of future customer complaints.

Capable of equipment troubleshooting and process design.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree from four or 5-year college or university.
B.S.
in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Controls Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Controls Engineering from an ABET Accredited university.
Relevant experience from internship is acceptable for experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

This position is responsible for influencing the development of preventative maintenance programs at the facility and will have a significant role in capital improvement plans while assisting in work area design, plant layout, visual control and metric implementation, material flow, process tracking, and communication.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Engineer's role is viewed as an extension of management.
Responsibilities are broad and include safety, product quality, process control, productivity improvement, and development of a LEAN culture.
The Engineer is expected to spend a significant amount of time on the floor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety
Assume a leadership position at the facility in partnership with the shift supervisors.
Activities include resolution and communication regarding safety issues.
Execute on scheduled PHA's and JSA's.
Proactively monitor area and remediate potential safety issues.
Use DAKOTA software as a tool for compliance and environmental, health and safety.
Use the tool to report incidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
LEAN Culture
Develop and execute upon "standard work" activities.
Assume responsibility for assigned activities on the Engineering Tier and other accountability boards.
Conduct "GEMBA Walks" daily.
Use walks as the primary means of education and communication of expectations.
Improve productivity through elimination of non-value-added activities.
Apply Engineering principles and methodologies to Improve productivity and eliminate waste.
Product Quality
Work to maximize equipment efficiency and quality for output.
Member of the facility QIC.
Ensure identification of root cause and subsequent prevention of future customer complaints.
Assist in the training of operators with a focus on quality critical product specifications and process parameters.
Capable of equipment troubleshooting and process design.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree from four or 5-year college or university.
B.S.
in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Controls Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Controls Engineering from an ABET Accredited university.
Relevant experience from internship is acceptable for experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

About the Role As a Senior Hydraulics & Cranes Service Engineer, youll handle repairs, maintenance, and refits of electro-hydraulic equipmentincluding cranes, davits, passerelles, and swim platformsaboard luxury yachts.
Work both in the Antibes workshop and onboard across Monaco, France, Italy, Spain, and beyond.
The role offers hands-on technical variety, travel, and the chance to work with cutting-edge maritime systems.
What You'll Do
- Refit, repair, and service hydraulic and lifting equipment on superyachts, following OEM standards.
- Diagnose and resolve hydraulic equipment breakdowns, communicating solutions to clients with confidence and clarity.
- Carry out thorough examinations and load testing of cranes and related systems, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate, timely service and inspection reports.
- Occasionally travel worldwide for projects and support the team outside standard hours during busy periods (FebruaryMay, up to 12hr/day with extra pay or time in lieu).
What We're Looking For
- Technical qualification in mechanical/hydraulic engineering.
- Strong experience with marine, industrial, mobile, or offshore hydraulics.
- Proficient in diagnosing, assembling, and maintaining hydraulic power packs.
- Skilled in interpreting technical schematics and hydraulic diagrams.
- Experience in cranes, lifting equipment, and load testingLEEA/LOLER certification is desirable.
- Fluent English (French is a plus), full clean driving licence.
- Able to work independently, troubleshoot under pressure, and bring a positive 'can-do' attitude.
