Head Multi Skilled Engineer
Location: Mitcham, Salary: £65,000 + Overtime Hours: Days Monday to Friday
We're supporting a growing food manufacturer who are looking for a hands-on Head Multi Skilled Engineer to lead their engineering function.
This role involves managing a small team of engineers while remaining fully involved in day-to-day maintenance, fault finding, and keeping production equipment running efficiently.
You will be responsible for ensuring all machinery, from automated lines to manual equipment, is well maintained, safe and reliable.
This position needs someone proactive, organised, and confident working under pressure in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.
Role Responsibilities:
Lead and support a team of four engineers
Electrical and mechanical fault finding
Work on ovens, mixers, conveyors, bagging and slicing machinery
Complete daily checks, PPM, and reactive maintenance
Identify worn parts and manage stock ordering
Welding and fabrication duties when required
Replace motors, sensors and mechanical components
Ensure all H&S procedures and site policies are followed
Act as point of contact for contractors and complete inductions
Keep accurate maintenance records and documentation
Represent the engineering function during audits
Work closely with production to plan maintenance and reduce downtime
About You:
Multi-skilled engineer with both mechanical and electrical ability
Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG
Confident working independently and leading others
Strong communicator with good organisational skills
Engineering qualification desirable (NVQ Level 3 or similar)
Self-driven with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility

Required Experience:
Associate degree required; BS in an Engineering or Business discipline strongly preferred or commensurate experience. A proven change agent with demonstrated ability to supervise and lead a diverse group of associates. Train and Coordinate teams to achieve high levels of productivity, quality and safety performance. Good written and verbal communication skills. Good computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office packages, SAP experience preferred. Proven abilities to successfully drive continuous improvement, manage multiple priorities and multitask. Ability to work well with other peer groups. Knowledge of industrial safety regulations, BRI, 5S Housekeeping and Lean Manufacturing. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations.
