Our client is seeking an AIT Mechanical Engineer (Contract) to become an integral part of the 3D Experience platform, crafting critical processes, plans, and procedures that guide the efficient and accurate construction of satellites.

Rates:

- £26.45 per Hour PAYE
- £35.00 Per Hour Outside IR35/Umbrella 

Key Responsibilities for the AIT Mechanical Engineer (Contract):

Project Preparation Phase -

- Provide immediate support to the customisation phase from project initiation.
- Actively participate in DMU sessions, championing design for manufacturing principles.
- Create essential documentation (ACS inputs, work instructions, procedures) for smooth production flow.
- Lead the installation of appendages and manage associated integration processes and preparation.
- Support the definition and procurement of MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment) for efficient satellite operations.
- Offer comprehensive support to Process Owner teams, enabling them to excel in their roles.

Project Operational Phase –

- Provide timely support to the AIT Lead Engineering team in periods of high workload.
- Collaborate with process owners to analyse observations, find solutions, and improve operational effectiveness.
- Actively participate in unit installation activities, maintaining high-quality standards through reviews, PFMEA, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Create tailored rework instructions based on project needs and manage the required parts and tooling.

 Non-Project -

- Design and build useful tools and aids for assembly execution.
- Partner with R&D teams, contributing your expertise and insights.
- Develop and maintain training modules, ensuring everyone stays up to date on processes and best practices.
- Champion standardisation, optimisation, and continuous improvement of working modes and processes.

Key Skills & Experience for the AIT Mechanical Engineer (Contract):

- Proficient mechanical skills and relevant experience.
- Proven ability to write procedures and process controls.
- Hands-on approach with a proactive mindset for problem-solving.
- Quality-driven with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring impeccable documentation.
- Extensive experience crafting high-quality documentation, including test specifications, plans, procedures, and project plans.
- Strong problem-solving skills, tackling technical, logistical, and organizational challenges.
- Excellent planning and process competence (MRP experience is an advantage).
- Deep understanding of satellite integration processes and project phases for seamless collaboration.
- Satellite Appendage installation process (Solar Array, reflectors, antennas, deployable systems).
- Good understanding and detailed experience of complex mechanical systems. 
- Lean manufacturing techniques including 5S, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Prepare and carry out environmental tests (Vibration, Acoustic, Mass properties, Thermal) at unit, subsystem, instrument, and spacecraft levels.
- Handling and installation of thermal hardware (heaters, thermistors).
- Mechanical integration of electronic units, subsystems and instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, mechanical sub-systems, instruments, payloads and spacecraft and control the documentation/process associated with performing these.
- Previous experience with payload builds is an advantage.
