An established UK manufacturer with a long-standing heritage in precision engineering is looking to recruit an experienced Sliding Head CNC Machinist to join its machine shop team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a high quality, technically driven manufacturing environment producing close-tolerance components for a wide range of industrial applications.


The role will suit a confident Programmer / Setter / Operator with strong experience on sliding head CNC lathes who enjoys problem-solving, optimisation, and working to exacting standards.


Key Responsibilities


Programming




  • Program sliding head CNC lathes using G-code and/or offline CAM software




  • Optimise programs to improve cycle times, tooling efficiency, and part quality




  • Edit and improve existing programs to resolve machining or quality issues




Setting & Operation




  • Set, prove out, and operate sliding head CNC machines (e.g.

    Citizen, Tornos)




  • Select, prepare, and set cutting tools, guide bushes, and work-holding equipment




  • Produce components to engineering drawings and specifications




  • Monitor machine performance and adjust offsets as required




Quality & Inspection




  • Inspect components using micrometers, verniers, gauges, and other measuring equipment




  • Ensure all parts meet tolerance, quality, and surface finish requirements




Health, Safety & Compliance




  • Maintain high health and safety standards at all times




  • Report any safety concerns immediately




  • Ensure full compliance with company procedures and statutory regulations




About You




  • Proven experience programming, setting, and operating sliding head CNC lathes




  • Strong understanding of close-tolerance machining




  • Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings




  • Methodical, quality-focused, and safety-conscious




  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
